Selected photos of Mochitsuki PDX 2014. This was Takohachi's debut of Kinpo Kagura; one of the pieces we learned while touring Japan in 2013. Kinpo Kagura is a traditional piece from a small city, called Nikaho in Akita, Japan. The history goes back to the end of the Edo period in the mid-1800s. After World War II, the local youth established this piece and prayed to the Kinpo Shrine for good harvests and safety.

Kodomo No Hi

24th of May, 2014

Kodomo no hi (Children's Day) is a Japanese national holiday that takes place in May. Takohachi was invited to perform for and with the Portland community at one of our favorite venues, the Portland Japanese Garden. This year we were fortunate to have our talented friend, Alton Chung, tell us a story.
