Global Arts Festival

Director of Takohachi, Yumi Torimaru will perform shinobue for the Global Arts Festival hosted by Elisabeth Jones Art Center.

5:30pm – Cooking ClassKicking off the evening’s events will be an exciting live streamed cooking class led by Chef Andrea Obana, who will be teaching us how to make Sushi Hand Rolls!

6:15pm – Artist InterviewWe will then hear from Kaoru Shibuta in a live streamed artist interview, hosted by John Teply, Executive Director of the Elisabeth Jones Art Center. Kaoru will talk about his artworks and the mural collaboration project, and there will be time set aside for Q&A with viewers.
7:00pm – Virtual Gallery TourAfter the artist interview we will then “travel” to Shikoku, Japan to enjoy a very exciting live tour of the Kamikoya washi studio in Kochi. We will learn about the process of making washi, a traditional Japanese paper, and see some of the ways that it is used in art, design, and architecture.
7:30pm – Storytelling PerformanceNext we will experience a live Japanese folktale storytelling performance by Alton Chung.https://www.altonchung.com/

8:00pm – Musical PerformanceFor the final event of the night, we will enjoy a live musical performance by Yumi Torimaru, creator of Kotori Japanese Music.https://www.kotorijapanesemusic.com/
